New York Tech Honored as a 2020 “Best for Vets” College

November 5, 2019

New York Institute of Technology has been recognized by the Military Times for the first time as a Best for Vets College, ranking no. 76 nationally and no. 4 in New York State among four-year colleges. A trusted source of news and information for the military community, the Military Times selects its annual “best of” list based on its annual survey of hundreds of colleges and universities on policies related to military and veteran students, academic outcomes, military-supportive culture, and several other factors.

“This recognition underscores the strides we have taken at New York Tech to provide access to opportunity to those who have served our country,” said President Hank Foley, Ph.D. “Our community of doers, makers, inventors, and innovators is enriched by our military/veteran students, and we continue to honor their service as we support their efforts to succeed both personally and professionally.”

More than 150 veterans are currently enrolled at the university, which participates in the Yellow Ribbon program and Troops to Teachers; provides financial aid, prior learning credits, and exclusive events/priority registration specifically for veterans; and offers additional services through the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs. In addition, the NYIT Student Veteran Organization provides peer-to-peer support for fellow veterans and sponsors special veteran-related events.

“The Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2020 list is full of prestigious universities,” notes Frank Rivera, M.S., who joined New York Institute of Technology as director of military and veteran affairs earlier this year. “Only three New York institutions ranked higher, and we are among just 11 New York schools that made the list.”
