Marketing Their Careers: PR Students Learn from the Pros

March 8, 2017

Building a brand’s reputation is job number one when it comes to public relations. In February, student members of the NYIT-Old Westbury Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter headed to Quinn, a lifestyle public relations agency in New York City, for a crash course in how to create successful marketing campaigns.

“The visit to Quinn was an engaging learning experience for NYIT students,” said Julie Price, adjunct assistant professor at NYIT College of Arts and Sciences. “Quinn’s executives described tactics used in successful campaigns, shared advice about how to advance in the field, and offered specific interview tips to land that entry level job.”

The students received a tour of the company’s New York offices where they had the opportunity to speak with staff members who explained the strategy behind some the agency’s most successful campaigns. Quinn has worked on marketing plans for brands such as The Waldorf Astoria, AKA, and Guerlain Spa in New York.

“Their enthusiasm for their work really shined through as they spoke about their clients. It really made me feel confident that I’m choosing the right path,” said Jeni Branch, a master’s student in communication arts and president of the NYIT-Old Westbury PRSSA chapter.

This is just one of a series of events the NYIT chapter has planned this semester to increase student awareness and knowledge of the public relations industry.
