Career Week 2018: Vancouver

October 23, 2018

From October 1 through 5, students at NYIT-Vancouver had the opportunity to polish their résumés as well as learn how to spruce up their LinkedIn page and enhance their M.B.A. during Career Week. They attended workshops and webinars where industry professionals shared their expertise.

One of the more popular sessions was Immigration Pathways to Permanent Residence. More than 60 students registered for the workshop to learn about the Canadian immigration system, including how the process works, tips for making the most of their time at NYIT, and the necessary steps for applying for permanent residence.

Students also learned the secrets to landing a job. Gabriel Borges, a recruiter at ManpowerGroup, led a workshop on what recruitment agencies are looking for in prospective candidates. He also shared the employment opportunities in ManpowerGroup’s database and explained how current students can apply. One student walked away with a job: Arun Kuchibhotla is now a contract worker for the agency.

In addition to learning how to write a résumé, students learned how to make the most of their M.B.A. at the “Enhance Your M.B.A.” workshop, led by Associate Professor of Finance Amba Sekhar, M.B.A., Ph.D. He advised attendees to pursue certifications that will upgrade their degree with a specialization.

Students also heard from their peers. M.B.A. student and former LinkedIn employee Sandeep Bondili led the workshop “Are You In?” Bondili gave students helpful tips on how to tweak their LinkedIn profile, build their network using keywords, and attracting human resources professionals.
