15th Annual SOURCE: Celebrating Student Research, Creativity, and Collaboration

More than 180 undergraduate and graduate students showcased their research and creative scholarly work at the 15th annual Symposium of University Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE) held on April 13 at NYIT-Manhattan. SOURCE highlights both student-faculty collaborations and interdisciplinary education.
At a poster exhibit in 16 W. 61st St., attendees viewed and discussed students’ work, which focused on topics such as sustainability, medicine, and graphic design. Some of the students gave oral presentations in areas ranging from behavioral sciences to English, which allowed them to talk about their research projects in greater detail.

More than 180 students showcased their research and creative scholarly work at the 15th annual Symposium of University Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE).
Keynote speaker Stuart Isacoff, a pianist, composer, and writer, spoke about the intermingling of art and science and their common basis in imagination. Isacoff focused on the mathematical and scientific theories that great thinkers such as Pythagoras contributed to the arrangement of the musical scale. The day ended with a certificate presentation and a video message from NYIT President Hank Foley, Ph.D., who congratulated the student participants.
Professor of Physics Roger Yu, Ph.D., dean emeritus of NYIT College of Arts and Sciences and chair of the SOURCE committee, said, “[SOURCE] has become a very strong tradition. The new president of NYIT has really emphasized student-centered education and learning, and this is nothing but student-centered, so I only foresee the growth of this event in the coming years.”
