Video: Akinobu Watanabe, Ph.D., on the Myths and Truths of Jurassic Park

In the world of Jurassic Park, dinosaurs can be cloned, a Velociraptor can open a door, and a Tyrannosaurus Rex can walk right past you—as long as you don’t move. This might make for great entertainment (since the first movie’s release in 1993, there have been four installments with the latest, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, released over the summer and the sixth, Jurassic World 3, set to hit theaters in 2021), but some of these scenarios seem a little far-fetched, don’t you think?

The Box went looking for answers from Assistant Professor of Anatomy Akinobu Watanabe, Ph.D., a vertebrate paleontologist who hunts (fossilized) dinosaurs in the field and who joined NYIT last January. Watch Watanabe set the record straight on some of Jurassic Park’s most sci-fantastic ideas and scenes and talk about what it’s really like to work in paleontology.
