Ricky Liu is an associate principal at di Domenico + Partners. He is an architect with expertise in the design, coordination, and management of a wide range of projects that include station design and planning for both mass transit systems and high speed rail, as well as academic buildings for higher education. He is well-versed in the complex issues inherent with the planning, design, restoration, and adaptive reuse of structures. His organizational strengths contribute to his effectiveness as both a project manager and senior designer while being attuned to preserving design integrity.

Liu is also mentors future architects at his alma mater, New York Institute of Technology. Through the synergy between professional studio practice and education, Liu integrates design, construction, sustainable concepts, and knowledge of the built environment, both inside and outside the studio. He was the Second Year Coordinator of Design from the Fall 2010 through Spring 2013 semesters and developed the course curriculum during that time.

Liu received his Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) at the New York Institute of Technology.

Recent Projects/Research

  • New York Aquarium Restoration & Flood Mitigation Brooklyn, NY - 2017
    Architectural and engineering design services for the Restoration of the New York Aquarium. A majority of the buildings, structures, and systems were damaged from Superstorm Sandy in October 2012. The objective of the project is to restore 9 buildings in the Aquarium complex and to make improvements in order to prevent future flooding.

  • Dulles Metrorail Corridor Project Vienna / Fairfax, VA - 2015
    Develop character defining design features for the 23 mile extension of the Washington Metro through Northern Virginia to Dulles Airport. Design includes new station prototypes as well as urban and landscape design adjacent to Metrorail structures that provide an interface with transit oriented development and intermodal transfer opportunities.

  • Rehabilitation of Fernow Hall - Cornell University Ithaca, NY - 2013
    Develop sustainable concepts, materials and systems for the renovation of 2 historic academic buildings for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to achieve LEED Gold Certification. Incorporate faculty offices, research spaces, advance conference spaces that facilitate technology for interaction with remote campuses as well as a state-of-the-art 50 person classroom addition.

  • Atlantic Terminal Complex & Entry Pavilion Brooklyn, NY - 2010
    Construction of a new Entry Pavilion for the Long Island Rail Road consisting of a concourse area, passenger waiting area and a 6 story skylit atrium.

  • The Northeast Maglev Washington D.C., Baltimore, Wilmington, Philadelphia and New York City - 2040
    Develop conceptual studies for Super Conducting Maglev high speed rail project along the Northeast Corridor. Design includes urban planning, identification of development sites and opportunities as well as station configuration that supports the project objective to provide high speed rail transportation that relieves congestion and promotes future transit-oriented growth.
