Esteban Beita specializes in architecture photography, traditional Japanese architecture, and the application of virtual reality in architecture. While at the University of Tokyo, he spent six years documenting over 100 temples, shrines, tea houses, tea rooms, villages, and dwellings in various parts of Japan. Beita is the recipient of the Monbukakusho scholarship, a prestigious grant offered by the Japanese government. While in Japan, his research involved the creation of photo-realistic 3-D models for analyzing the movement of light in tea houses. He implemented this study in modeling one of Japan’s most famous tea rooms, the Bosen Tea Room, to examine how traditional design principles function and can be used in western architecture. His investigation also explores the use of 3-D modeling and virtual reality for analyzing traditional architecture. Beita’s photographs capture the harmony between architecture and landscape while showing the beauty of Japanese design.
