A Message from the Director of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program

Lissi Athanasiou-Krikelis

The Interdisciplinary Studies Program at New York Institute of Technology provides students the opportunity to craft their own degrees based upon their needs, aspirations, and ambitions, and, if applicable, based upon their prior experiences or knowledge. If pursuing a single disciple is not one’s most desirable path toward graduation, the IDSP program offers various options and alternatives.

In this program, students are trained to address complex questions by analyzing and synthesizing information with interdisciplinary perspectives and by using tools across disciplinary boundaries. They are also trained to be agile thinkers and good communicators. Such skills are highly marketable and are sought after by employers and organizations.

With more than fifteen concentrations, the program allows students to explore an array of future careers and professions. Some students start in IDSP because they have a vison of a degree that cannot be accomplished with a single major; others start as indecisive students who would like to explore options before they settle on a single career path; and yet others transfer to the program after they have examined traditional pathways that they no longer find fulfilling.

Feel free to contact me at lathanas@nyit.edu to discuss your plans and decide whether Interdisciplinary Studies is right for you. I look forward to seeing you at one of our New York campuses soon.

Sincerely,

Lissi Athanasiou-Krikelis, Ph.D., Director
