Applying to NYIT-Vancouver

Thank you for your interest in NYIT. As a global university, NYIT offers the same career-oriented, technology-driven approach to education at our various campuses.

For now, we are only accepting applications for our graduate programs in Vancouver, Canada. If you're ready to earn a master's degree in one of six career-oriented programs, review the requirements below and start your application now.

Step 1: Review Admission Requirements for NYIT-Vancouver

Master of Business Administration, M.B.A and M.B.A. with Finance concentration

You must possess the following credentials in order to be considered* for the Master of Business Administration, M.B.A and M.B.A. with Finance concentration at NYIT-Vancouver:

  • Four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Demonstrated English proficiency**
    • The International English Language Testing System (IELTS), preferred. Minimum score of 6.0 overall.
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Minimum score: 79 on the Internet-based test.

* Minimum requirements. The M.B.A. program has a limited number of seats and only the best applicants will be admitted to the program.

** This is not required if you have completed your bachelor’s degree from an English speaking country such as Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand. NYIT-Vancouver reserves the right to test new students for their English proficiency upon arrival on campus.


The M.B.A. program consists of waivable and non-waivable courses:


  • Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in the past five years may apply to transfer up to 18 credits of waivable courses. In order to waive a course, you must demonstrate that you have successfully completed an equivalent course at an accredited four-year institution prior to enrolling at NYIT. If a course is not waived, it must be completed as part of NYIT’s M.B.A. program.
  • Up to nine transfer credits from an accredited graduate program may be granted to students for elective courses with a grade of B or equivalent.

Energy Management, M.S.

You must possess the following credentials in order to be considered* for the Energy Management, M.S. program at NYIT-Vancouver:

  • Four-year bachelor's degree in science or engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.85 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Demonstrated English proficiency**
    • The International English Language Testing System (IELTS), preferred. Minimum score of 6.5 overall.
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Minimum score: 88 on the Internet-based test.

* Minimum requirements. The Energy Management, M.S. program has a limited number of seats and only the best applicants will be admitted to the program.

** This is not required if you have completed your bachelor's degree from an English speaking country such as Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand. NYIT-Vancouver reserves the right to test new students for their English proficiency upon arrival on campus.


Information, Network, and Computer Security, M.S.

You must possess the following credentials in order to be considered* for the Information, Network, and Computer Security, M.S. program at NYIT-Vancouver:

  • Four-year bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.85 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Minimum GRE score of 300 (if required)
  • Demonstrated English proficiency**
    • The International English Language Testing System (IELTS), preferred. Minimum score of 6.5 overall.
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Minimum score: 88 on the Internet-based test.

* Minimum requirements. The Information, Network, and Computer Security, M.S. program has a limited number of seats and only the best applicants will be admitted to the program.

** This is not required if you have completed your bachelor’s degree from an English speaking country such as Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand. NYIT-Vancouver reserves the right to test new students for their English proficiency upon arrival on campus.


Instructional Technology, Educators, M.S.

    You must possess the following credentials in order to be considered* for the Instructional Technology, Educators, M.S. program at NYIT-Vancouver:

    • Four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
    • Demonstrated English proficiency**
      • The International English Language Testing System (IELTS), preferred. Minimum score of 6.5 overall.
      • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Minimum score: 88 on the Internet-based test.

    * Minimum requirements. The Instructional Technology, Educators, M.S. program has a limited number of seats and only the best applicants will be admitted to the program.

    ** This is not required if you have completed your bachelor’s degree from an English speaking country such as Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand. NYIT-Vancouver reserves the right to test new students for their English proficiency upon arrival on campus.


Step 2: Complete an Application

Complete the NYIT Online Application. There is a USD $50 nonrefundable application fee.

Step 3: Submit Required Application Materials

Once you apply online and pay the application fee, please upload the following supporting documents to the Vancouver Admissions Office using this document upload form. If required, you may email vancouverinfo@nyit.edu:

  • Copy of paid (non-refundable) application fee
  • Copy of application submission confirmation
  • Copy of fillable application checklist
  • Copy of semester by semester transcripts
  • Copy of Bachelor’s Degree certificate
  • Copy of IELTS or TOEFL
  • Copy of Passport
  • Resume or C.V. (1-2 pp) and Statement of Purpose or Letter of Intent are strongly recommended for students applying for the M.B.A. program.

Step 4: Check Your Application Status

Throughout the admission process, you can check on the status of your application. We will communicate with you through the portal and via email regarding any missing documents required for your application. If you did not apply through NYIT’s Online Application, please register for an account to check your status. If your status says “incomplete,” then we are not able to review your application for admission until all required documents are received. If you recently submitted these items, please allow 2-4 weeks for us to process these materials.


Additional Information for Students Applying from Outside of Canada

Admission Reminder

Please be aware that due to our growing list of applicants, only those with the most competitive applications will be admitted.

Tuition Deposit

International students are required to pay a tuition deposit of CAD $7,298.00 for the first semester and student services fee before the issuance of an official letter of acceptance to an NYIT-Vancouver graduate program. The deposit is refundable only if official proof of a Canadian Study Permit rejection is submitted.

Student Health Care – International Students Only

For the first semester (4 months) we have implemented a mandatory travel insurance program that costs $200 CAD for all new international students studying at NYIT-Vancouver Campus. This will ensure that every student has health coverage during their travels to Canada, and until the provincial health coverage (MSP) begins.

Full-Time Status

International students must maintain their full-time status by taking the minimum required credit hours per semester and per year. M.B.A. students must take a minimum of 7.5 credits during Fall and Spring semesters, and 6 credits in the Summer (21 credits per year); M.S.-I.N.C.S., M.S.-E.M., and M.S.-I.T. students must take 7.5 credits in the first semester and 6 credits in the remaining semesters (19.5 credits per year).

Off-Campus and Post-Graduation Work Permits

International students at NYIT-Vancouver are eligible for off-campus and post-graduation work permits.

Canadian Study Permits

Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents must obtain a study permit from the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). Receiving a study permit may take several weeks to months, so we encourage you to apply in advance.
