New York Institute of Technology Grants to Students Under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021

New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) has received funding from the federal government and has used the funds to distribute grants to students in accordance with Section 2003 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) (Pub. L. 117-2), governed by Section 2003 of the ARP and Section 314 of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) (Pub. L. 116-260).

The details of this funding follow:

  1. The total amount of funds that New York Institute of Technology has received from the U.S. Department of Education pursuant to award P425E201115-20B for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students is $6,091,796.
  2. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed by NYIT as of March 28, 2022 pursuant to award P425E201115-20B is $6,091,796. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under the American Recovery Plan as of March 28, 2021 is $6,092,014.
  3. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under award P425E201115-20B is as follows:
    • August 16, 2021 - NYIT distributed $144,200 in Emergency Financial Aid Grants in the amount of $200 to 721 medical school students who had already started the 2021-22 academic term.
    • November 1, 2021 -NYIT distributed $2,972,070 (updated due to one distribution for $970 being returned as undeliverable) in Emergency Financial Aid Grants, giving priority to Pell Grant recipients, as follows:
      1. $970 to each of the 1,371 Pell recipients (updated due to one distribution being returned as undeliverable);
      2. $500 each to 2,853 non-Pell recipients; and
      3. $300 each to 719 students who had already received an allocation on August 16, 2021.
    • March 28, 2022 - NYIT distributed $2,975,744 in Emergency Financial Aid Grants, giving priority to Pell Grant recipients, as follows:
      1. $1,024 to each of the 1,205 Pell recipients and
      2. $512 each to 3,402 non-Pell recipients
  4. Students receiving Emergency Financial Aid Grants have been instructed that, in accordance with the Section 314(A)(1) of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), the funds may be used for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student's cost of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and child care).
