Dubai, U.A.E. (Feb. 14, 2012)—In her keynote address to attendees of the 4th Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) ceremony, NYIT Dean of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences Nada Marie Anid, Ph.D., praised the United Arab Emirates for their latest Green Development Strategy. Noting that "sustainability is both a social and a corporate responsibility," Anid encouraged the audience, which included Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to lead the way with its mission towards a globally competent, green economy. Abu Dhabi, U.A.E (Nov. 5, 2011)—As part of a month-long community strategy to educate Emirati students on the perils of driving irresponsibly, entertainment company Flash Entertainment invited students at NYIT-Abu Dhabi to participate in its “Yasalam Responsibly” road safety campaign.
“The event hosted presentations and a mini competition where students answered trivia for prizes related to Formula One, Ferrari World, and music concerts in Abu Dhabi,” said Jan Wallace, director of operations and external affairs.
Following the Yasalam team’s presentations on the consequences of speeding, not wearing a seat belt, talking on cell phones and texting while driving—the main causes of accidents and fatalities on the road—students signed the Yasalam Responsibility Pledge.

Abu Dhabi, U.A.E (Oct. 20, 2011)—For three days, NYIT-Abu Dhabi staff and faculty members met with thousands of prospective students and visitors from schools, colleges, universities, and local and international companies at this year’s NAJAH exhibition, the Middle East's leading education, training, and careers exhibition.
“This ‘glocal’ approach expands the career opportunities for NYIT students—many Emirati and expatriate participants interested in studying in the United States were happy to hear about our extensive range of program offerings in New York,” said Jan Wallace, director of operations and external affairs.

Dubai, U.A.E. (Sep. 30, 2011)—NYIT-Abu Dhabi Campus Dean Garon Wheeler, Ph.D., accepted the World Congress Asia Award for Best Educational Institute in Engineering on behalf of NYIT at the Sept. 25 World Congress Asia Awards ceremony here.
“It is an honor to be included in this distinguished group of universities from Egypt to Singapore, and it’s satisfying to see our efforts recognized on such a global scale,” he said.
The World Education Congress screened universities from more than 20 countries before deciding to honor the NYIT School of Engineering and Computing Sciences with the award for excellence in education, leadership, and teaching.

Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. (Sept. 26, 2011)—Director of Operations and External Affairs Jan Wallace welcomed the incoming Class of 2015 to the NYIT-Abu Dhabi campus orientation on Sept. 25. The new students attended sessions geared to better acquaint them with the processes of admission, registration, and library and career services.
NYIT-Abu Dhabi held its fifth graduation ceremony on June 9, 2011. The Class of 2011 included 65 graduates who celebrated along with guests including friends, family, and alumni at the Armed Forces Officers Club. Student speaker Daniella Melikian addressed her classmates following a graduation address by NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D.

Abu Dhabi, U.A.E (May 12, 2011)—Designs by students at NYIT-Abu Dhabi were featured at the annual Interiors UAE design challenge, a global interior design exposition and conference held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre on May 9-11. View the photo gallery.
Interiors UAE is the only annual interiors trade event held in Abu Dhabi. Over the course of two days, its organizers offer seminars on industry trend forecasts and best practices to designers and industry leaders from across the globe.
The event’s student design challenge is held annually in order to discover the region’s next generation of interior designers.

Tiruchirapalli, India (Jan. 18, 2011) – Building on a culture of global exchange, NYIT-Abu Dhabi recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India’s Bharathidasan University (BU). The MoU serves as a step toward joint academic programs and a higher standard of research activities in commerce, management, and financial studies at the Indian university. Both universities hope to achieve these goals through an exchange of academic materials, research methods, students, and faculty members.
Sanjay Bose, Associate Dean, School of Management, NYIT-Abu Dhabi, and BU Vice-Chancellor K. Meena exchanged the documents at BU.
Taha Al Douri, Ph.D., associate professor and assistant dean of architecture and design at NYIT-Abu Dhabi, was featured in the Khaleej Times Online article, "Design Maestro."
The NYIT-Abu Dhabi School of Management earned joint first place in in the Global Business Strategy Simulation Game (GLO-BUS), a competition among 118 universities worldwide. Students in the Business Policy Seminar, taught by Associate Professor Faisal Al-Khateeb, Ph.D., participated in the competition.
Stephen Blythe, J.D., Ph.D., professor of law in the School of Management, NYIT-Abu Dhabi, has been awarded a Ph.D. in computer law from the University of Hong Kong's School of Law. His dissertation was entitled "An Alternative Theory of E-Commerce Law."
K. Ravichandran, Ph.D., assistant professor in the School of Management at NYIT-Abu Dhabi, is co-author of "Influence of Service Quality on Banking Customers' Behavioural Intentions," published in the International Journal of Economics and Finance, November 2010.
Faisal B. Al-khateeb, Ph.D., associate professor in the School of Management at NYIT-Abu Dhabi, had his paper, " Explaining Growth in an Emerging Market," published in the Journal of Global Business and Finance Review, Spring 2010.
Richard Pizer, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), and Richard Cotton, Country Director of the British Council, UAE, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to improve the level in English of students applying for admission to degree programs offered at the university.
NYIT was the first American university licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the capital of United Arab Emirates. The British Council has had representation in the UAE since 1968 and is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. The Council is a registered charity, 209131 (England and Wales) SC037733 (Scotland), and builds engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide.
Prospective students at the NYIT are required to attain an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL paper-based examination of 550 in order to meet the criteria in English to gain admission to the university. Students that do not meet the criteria have the option of studying IELTS preparation courses or general English at the British Council. On meeting the required scores and other admissions criteria, students can progress with their education and register for the career-oriented, degree of their choice at NYIT; study at any of the NYIT campuses in Abu Dhabi, New York, Bahrain, Amman, Canada, or China; and look forward to making a significant contribution to local and global economies.
