Mark E. Strauss
Senior Partner, FXFOWLE Architects

Mark Strauss is a senior partner at FXFOWLE Architects, an architectural, interior design, planning, and urban design firm with offices in New York, Washington D.C., and Dubai. Strauss, who joined the firm in 2000, leads its planning and urban design work.

Strauss specializes in developing and planning strategies to assist communities, institutions, and developers redefine properties in response to design, economic, transportation, and political concerns. He is advising the City of Philadelphia as part of its “Imagine Philadelphia,” which started as a series of workshops designed to elicit community input into a city-wide planning framework. Other projects include planning and urban design services for a 2.6 million-square-foot mixed-use development site in the Washington D.C. area, and an on-call urban design and planning contract for Metro North Railroad.

He uses his multidisciplinary skills to improve the built environment and influence public policy. He was an organizer of New York New Visions, a coalition of design and planning organizations dedicated to rebuilding Lower Manhattan in the aftermath of the Sept. 11. He served as the 2006 President of the the American Institute of Architects NY Chapter. Strauss received a bachelor of architecture from Cornell University and a master’s degree in urban planning from City College.
