Graduation Checklist

graduation checklistPreparing to Graduate from NYIT

Juniors

  • Review your program evaluation (your academic evaluation/degree audit which can be found at NYITConnect) with your Academic Advisor to map out what courses you will need to graduate ON TIME! Please remember that certain classes are offered only during the Fall or Spring semester, so review your program evaluation with graduation in mind starting in your JUNIOR year!

Seniors

  • All candidates for graduation must apply online through NYITConnect at the beginning of their final semester at NYIT. After your graduation application is processed, you will receive a letter from the Office of the Registrar detailing your status. Please review this letter and address any issues or discrepancies immediately.

  • After applying for graduation, meet with your advisor to complete the PROGRAM EVALUATION form. If you have been cleared for graduation (approved / approved pending successful completion of all in-progress course work), the Chairperson, advisor, and you will sign the completed program evaluation and forward it to the Office of the Registrar.

  • Graduation requirements include, but are not limited to:
    • fulfilling all requirements for your degree;
    • meeting the minimum cumulative GPA required for your program;
    • completing the appropriate distribution of at least 30 credits in residency at NYIT;
    • applying for graduation online via NYITConnect prior to the application deadlines listed on the academic calendar.

  • Complete Exit Loan Counseling with the Office of Financial Aid. All borrowers of Federal Direct Student Loan and Perkins Loan funds are required to have an exit interview during their final semester. Group sessions will be scheduled for graduating students. Students can also complete this requirement online at www.studentloans.gov.

  • Senior year is graduate school admissions time. If you want to attend graduate school, take the necessary standardized tests for admission. Depending on what your intended program requires, you may have to take the GRE, MCAT, GMAT, LSAT, or DAT. You should research different graduate programs and schools, including NYIT. You should consider which faculty and staff members to ask for letters of recommendation.

  • Make an appointment with Career Services. They can help you with your resume, career preparation, and job search.

  • Plan to attend commencement. Review www.nyit.edu/commencement/. If you have questions regarding commencement, please e-mail commencement@nyit.edu or call 516.989.1177.
