Information About Occupational Therapy

The department of Occupational Therapy at New York Institute of Technology offers two methods of earning a master of science degree in Occupational Therapy. All professional courses are offered on the Old Westbury campus in a specially designed occupational therapy laboratory for both day and evening classes. Five full-time faculty have extensive clinical and educational experience in pediatrics, geriatrics, research, mental and community health, adult rehabilitation and industrial rehabilitation.

The degree program for a freshman or transfer student consists of up to five and one-half years of pre-professional and professional courses, labs, and clinical internships. A bachelor of science in health sciences with an occupational therapy option is earned, and the student continues in the program to earn a master of science in occupational therapy. A transfer student will receive a credit evaluation by the admissions department evaluator and initiate the B.S./M.S sequence at the appropriate point based on the number of credits accepted by the college.

The degree program for an applicant with a baccalaureate degree consists of two and one-half years of professional courses, labs, and clinical rotations. Certain pre-requisites must be completed prior to admission to the program. Click here and go to the Admissions page to get more information about admissions requirements and pre-requisites.
