Faisal M. Khan New Westminster, B.C. Class Of: 2015
Campus: Vancouver Major: M.B.A.
I am a tech entrepreneur, business developer, and brand and marketing strategist. I have a natural instinct towards technology which caused me to explore the digital world to create an Internet product. After completion of my undergrad degree in management science, I formed my first venture, a comprehensive personal health record (PHR) company called Health Revive.
Values and inspiration
My family taught me that if I am to succeed in life, I have to be educated. I have always been interested in focusing my career in the business field. Great Indian businessmen have inspired me to learn how they achieved success in global business so that I can follow in their path.
This inspiration toward business resulted in the formation of Health Revive in the United States. Working with an American entrepreneur in India, I realized the importance of getting exposure to diverse cultural backgrounds and developing my ability to look at things from different perspectives.
My brother, who has been living in Vancouver for the last 10 years, encouraged me to pursue my MBA at a well-rounded university. Given the international acceptability of an NYIT degree and the international exposure that I will get, I decided to pursue my MBA here.
My NYIT experience so far
I am very impressed with the fantastic mix of diverse cultures, academic instruction, and courses covered by the professional business people at NYIT. I have acquired practical knowledge and gained a valuable network.
NYIT has given me the opportunity to understand the Canadian economy and experience diverse cultures. As the current chair of the Student Advisory Board (SAB), I am enjoying the opportunity to engage in discussions for launching student-inspired initiatives and to provide our input to the university.
Role of the SAB
The Student Advisory Board assumes multiple roles within the NYIT-Vancouver campus, including:
Providing student voices and input from other members to the dean and associate dean;
Implementing student-inspired ideas, initiatives, and events; and
Responding to incidents, concerns, or issues within NYIT.
The beautiful city of Vancouver and NYIT have a special vibrancy and energy which bring ample opportunities to interact with the business community and economy here. After completion of my degree, I will have the credibility to serve a reputable business organization, including my own entrepreneurial venture.
My future goal is to inspire people to believe in a cause greater than self and to revolutionize how they experience healthcare. I believe my career will begin by serving a reputable organization while continuously polishing my skills and acquiring knowledge. At the same time, I expect to continue with my entrepreneurial venture.
