Lawrence Herman, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, made a series of presentations at a continuing medical education program sponsored by the Practicing Clinicians Exchange on Dec. 1 in Melville, N.Y.

Salvatore Barese, Ed.D., chairperson of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, has been appointed chair of the Governance Committee of the Physician Assistant Education Association.

Lawrence Herman, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, had an article, "Sounding Board: A Walk Through Never Never Land," published in the June 2007 edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. The article details his wife's successful battle against breast cancer.

Salvatore Barese, Ed.D., associate professor and chairperson of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, along with faculty members Frank Acevedo and Zehra Ahmed, participated in a workshop about monitoring for hypertension at the American Academy of Physician Assistants Annual Conference, May 29, Philadelphia, Penn.

Lawrence Herman, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, has been appointed the American Academy of Physician Assistants' liaison to The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. The commission evaluates and accredits nearly 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.

Barbara Piccirillo, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, chaired two workshops at the American Academy of Physician Assistants 35th Annual Physician Assistant Conference, Philadelphia, Penn., May 24 - 31.

Lawrence Herman, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, chaired an advisory panel about seasonal and pandemic influenza for Roche Pharmaceuticals on May 4 in Nutley, N.J.

Lawrence Herman, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, participated in a conference titled, "Physician Assistant Competencies for Genomic Medicine: Where We Are Today and How to Prepare for the Future," at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md., March 29 - 30. Conference attendees included Acting Surgeon General Kenneth P. Moritsugu and Director of the National Human Genomics Research Institute Francis Collins.

Barbara Piccirillo, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, coordinated and led a workshop series, "Ultrasound - A Comprehensive Emergency Medicine Applications," at the 2007 Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants Conference, Naples, Fla., March 28 - March 31. Frank Acevedo, assistant professor, also participated in the conference.

Frank Acevedo, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, co-authored the chapter "General and Vascular Surgery" in the textbook Lange Q&A Physician Assistant (McGraw-Hill, fifth edition).

Lawrence Herman, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, had his article, "Community-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Skin Infections: Coming to a Patient Near You," published in the January 2007 edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Barbara Piccirillo, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, had her article, "Rapid Diagnosis of Ectopic Pregnancy Using Emergency Bedside Ultrasonography," published in the January 2007 edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
