Frank Acevedo, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, presented, "Using Simulated Patients and Robotics to Teach Death and Dying," on Oct. 28 at the Physician Assistant Education Association's international conference in Quebec, Canada.
Lawrence Herman, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, co-authored a manuscript titled, "Paradigm Shifts in Gender-Based Medicine," which was published in the October 2006 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Lawrence Herman, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, presented his paper, "Beyond Dyslipidemia and Cardiometabolic Risk: From Evidence to Outcomes," at the annual conference of the Alaska Academy of Physician Assistants.
Frank Acevedo, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, made the following presentations at the New York State Society of Physician Assistants Fall 2006 conference in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.: "Knobology for Vascular Access Ultrasound"; "Vascular Access Ultrasound Workshop"; "Technology Explosion in Physician Assistant Education"; and "Applying Learning Styles in Physician Assistant Education."
Lawrence Herman, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, made three recent presentations: "The 'Dislocation' of Medicine and Medical Outsourcing in the United States" and "Alzheimer's Disease: Early Interventions for Optimal Outcomes" at the California Academy of Physician Assistant's Annual Conference on Sept. 30; and "Beyond Dyslipidemia and Cardiometabolic Risk: From Evidence to Outcomes" at the Maryland Academy of Physician Assistant Annual Conference on Oct. 1.
Danielle Koshofer, a second-year NYIT physician assistant student, received the New York State Society of Physician Assistants' (NYSSPA) scholarship award for the second consecutive year. She was presented the honor at NYSSPA's Fall 2006 conference held in Saratoga Springs , N.Y. Barbara Piccirillo, assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, organized and chaired the first faculty development forum at the conference.
Barbara Piccirillo, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, had her article, Survey on Use of and Attitudes Toward Influenza Vaccination Among Emergency Department Staff in a New York Metropolitan Hospital, published in the June issue of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology.
Faculty members Frank Acevedo, Lawrence Herman and Barbara Piccirillo, and students Danielle Koshofer, Jamie Pettis, Rachel Wallis, and Michelle Wilson from the department of physician assistant studies presented papers and conducted workshops at the American Academy of Physician Assistants 34th Annual Conference in San Francisco, Calif., May 27 - June 1. In addition, Danielle Koshofer, president of NYIT's student physician assistant society, received a Physician Assistant Foundation Scholarship.
Lawrence Herman, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, co-authored Overcoming Macrolide Resistance in the Treatment of Respiratory Tract Infections, the supplement to the April 2006 edition of The Clinical Advisor.
In May 2006, Salvatore Barese, associate professor and chairperson of the department of physician assistant studies, was appointed to a two-year term on the Physician Assistant Education Association's Governance Committee.
Lawrence Herman, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, co-authored the article, ACC/AHA Heart Failure Guideline Update, which was published in the April 2006 edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Lawrence Herman, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, was quoted in an article that appeared in the May 2006 issue of Money magazine. The magazine ranked physician assistant as the fifth-best career choice.
Lawrence Herman, professor of physician assistant studies, has been appointed chair of the Clinical and Scientific Affairs Council by the American Academy of Physician Assistants, effective July 1, 2006.
Barbara Piccirillo and Frank Acevedo, assistant professors in the physician assistant studies program, chaired and participated, respectively, in a workshop titled, "Advance Beyond the Stethoscope," at the annual conference of the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants in Naples, Fla., March 29 - April 2, 2006.
Frank Acevedo, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, and Sal Barese, associate professor and chairperson of physician assistant studies, had their article, "SARS: Are We Still at Risk?," published in the March 2006 edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Lawrence Herman had an article, "Vaccines, Thimerosal and Neurodevelopmental Disorders," published in the February 2006 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
