NYIT's use of high-tech mannequins that can simulate nearly every possible human health condition was the subject of a front-page article in the Dec. 15, 2005 issue of AAPA News (American Academy of Physician Assistants). The human patient simulators, which are used in the physician assistant program and other NYIT health professions programs, expose students to a broad range of clinical situations and provide a hands-on, real-world learning experience. NYIT is one of only a handful of colleges in the United States to employ these educational tools. The article includes quotes by Frank Acevedo, assistant professor and academic coordinator, Salvatore Barese, program chairperson, and students Lisa Kort and Erica Napoli. If you would like a copy of the article, please contact the Office of Communications and Marketing.

In October 2005, Frank Acevedo was elected to the Board of Directors of the Physician Assistant Education Association for a two-year term as member-at-large

In November 2005, Lawrence Herman was appointed to the Clinical Scientific Affairs Committee of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Lawrence Herman, assistant professor in the department of physician assistant studies, presented, "Advances in the Treatment of Neuropathic Pain," to members of the Department of Podiatry at their monthly Grand Rounds at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, N.Y., on Nov. 23.
