Responsibilities
New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury campus, seeks a Network/Security Engineer. Under the direction of the Director of Systems & Networks, the Network/Security Engineer will install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot and monitor all network devices including: routers, switches, firewalls, IDS/IPS, Wireless Access points, Network Management systems, Anti-Spam appliances, and VPN’s. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring procedures and practices to secure clinical, business, and research information; troubleshooting network performance and security issues; recommending and applying upgrades, patches, and hotfixes; resolving incidents and providing internal incident reporting; assisting users within campus and remote locations; designing, installing, configuring, monitoring, reviewing, and managing networks including security-related devices; developing and implementing security controls; and providing security expertise to server administrators.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and 5+ years of related experience required. Master’s degree preferred. Prior experience with Cisco routers and VPN’s, Checkpoint Firewall, and Nortel switches preferred. Experience in a complex, multi-platform, higher education IT environment a plus. The successful candidate must demonstrate technical skills and proficiency in the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and support of multi-vendor, multi-protocol secure LAN/WAN environments, and be familiar with current network and security best practices and protocols. Proficiency with various network topologies used in large enterprise networks, network management, router/switch/firewall/vpn/wlan hardware and software, system configurations, and related network equipment is required.
