Students From NYIT Global Campuses Wishing to Study in the United States
If you are admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program at one of NYIT’s locations, you are entitled to study at any of NYIT’s campuses. However, if you wish to spend time in the U.S., additional documentation will be necessary.
Affidavit of Support: In order to receive an I-20 or DS-2019 from NYIT, international students must provide a duly signed and notarized affidavit of support that shows there is adequate financial support to finance your education at NYIT. To receive this form, e-mail the Office of Admissions or download the affidavit form (PDF).
Bank Statement: An original bank statement, written on your bank’s stationery, signed and notarized by a bank officer, and showing available funds in U.S. dollars, must accompany your completed and notarized affidavit of support. Copies of bankbooks or monthly statements are not acceptable.
Visa Request Guidelines
Applying for J-1 Exchange Visa
Visa for students who plan to study in New York for one semester:
- Submit a notarized financial affidavit of support and bank statement showing at least $17,000 (undergraduate) and $13,000 (graduate).
- Student is required to complete a DS-2019 request form.
- Student pays the tuition rate of home campus.
Applying for F-1 Student Visa
Visa for student who wants to complete program of study in New York:
- Student must submit a notarized financial affidavit of support and bank statement showing at least $34,000 (undergraduate) and $26,000 (graduate).
- Student must submit a change of campus form.
- Graduate MBA students must submit a minimum GMAT score of 400.
- Student pays tuition rate of new campus.
Registration
- Student must consult with academic advisor to select appropriate courses.
- Students must confirm availability of desired courses. Go to NYITConnect and "Search for Sections."
- Registrations forms should be sent as soon as possible to secure a seat for the student. Download a registration form (PDF).
- Desired location of attendance should be indicated.
- Arrangements must be made to provide payment for tuition after arrival.
- Payment can be made by international bank check, major credit card, or wire transfers.
Immunizations
- Students are required to fill out immunization forms prior to their arrival in the U.S. Learn about the immunization policy and download immunization forms.
- Forms can be sent prior to arrival to Sim Basta at sbasta@nyit.edu or via fax to 516.686.1410.
Confirmations
- If documents are faxed, confirmations should be provided stating the documents you received were the original copies. This can be faxed or e-mailed.
- If the originals are sent, confirmation is not required.
Housing
- Housing application should be filled out and sent to the attention of Susan Heim at the Manhattan campus (sheim@nyit.edu, fax 212.261.1778) or to Edward Stigall Jr. at the Old Westbury campus (estigall@nyit.edu, fax 516.686.1405).
- Housing information can be found at NYIT's Office of Housing and Residential Life.
Arrival
- Student must provide advance notice (at least three weeks) of travel date if airport pick-up is desired.
- International students must check in with the Office of International Education

NOTE: Please make sure that all of the forms are filled out completely and correctly (address and financial information must be accurate). They should be singed and dated. Students are required to maintain a full-time course load unless they are graduating.
