Admissions Requirements/Applications
Admissions Requirements
All applicants are required to
- Hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Possess a minimum accumulative GPA average of 2.5 (with some exceptions based on review by the admissions committee).
- Demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done by submitting TOEFL, IELTS or other exams approved by NYIT. Applicants who obtain TOEFL score of 550 or equivalent can be admitted. Applicants who obtain TOEFL score of 500-549 or equivalent can be conditionally admitted.
Application Documents
All of the credentials listed below must be written in English. All translations must be certified and accompanied by notarized copies of the original document(s) as well.
- Application: Please be sure to indicate starting date and desired program. Please sign and date the application (download application PDF).
- Application Fee: Non-refundable application fee of $50 (U.S.).
- Official Transcripts: Required of all applicants who are seeking admission into NYIT. Transfer work completed at another college or university must be documented via an official transcript. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted with your application for use in determining your admission into the college. Official transcripts, noting any degrees earned from each institution you attended, must be submitted within the first semester of enrollment. Transfer credit for prior college work will not be awarded unless official transcripts are filed. International students who attended college/university outside the U.S. may be required to submit their transcripts (and/or certified translations) for evaluation to the World Education Services at www.wes.org.
- Identification: Please provide a copy of your passport or national identification card.
- English Proficiency: Students must demonstrate English proficiency.
- Additional Documents: Other documents may be necessary to complete the admissions review.

International Applicants
Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents must obtain a study permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada in order to live and study in Canada for more than six months. APPLY EARLY! Depending on location, it might take weeks, even months, for a study permit application to be processed. Contact the Canadian embassy, consulate, or immigration office for a study permit application.
