MedPrep Summer Program

Med Prep I Mission
The Med Prep I Program is a six week summer program for students accepted to NYCOM through the HCOP grant.  The Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) works in collaboration with the Office of Pre-Clinical Education to develop a program that prepares “incoming students for the rigors of medical school.”  This program offers students who meet the eligibility criteria of the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) an opportunity to strengthen their preliminary educational skills and to improve their ability to successfully complete the regular course of study at NYCOM complying with the satisfactory academic progress standards as stated in the NYCOM catalogue.  Those students who are accepted to NYCOM through the HCOP Program are required to successfully complete the Med prep I Program.  The curriculum is a combination of traditional lectures and problem based, small group student centered learning.  The lecture based format focuses on basic core medical sciences (i.e. physiology, bio-chemistry, and microbiology) as well as lectures on clinical medicine.
