Giving students the knowledge and skills needed to become caring, culturally sensitive, ethical and culturally competent osteopathic physicians.
The mission of the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) grant at NYCOM/NYIT is to provide educational opportunities in health care to individuals who are committed to serving in New York and other areas while building a diverse health care professional workforce.
By reaching out to educationally and/or economically disadvantaged students through the HCOP grant we hope to:
- Link with our High School Science and Technology entry program (STEP), and the Achievers Into Medicine (AIM), our undergraduate pipeline program.
-
Provide a continuum of support spanning a period of time from high school through medical school
-
Offer students several points of entry and multiple opportunities for success
-
Develop a more diverse and academically competitive applicant pool
-
Graduate physicians with exposure to primary care needs in underserved populations
This comprehensive pipeline continuum is entitled Project Advance. Project Advance includes:
STEP, AIM, Med Prep I Summer Program and Med Prep II Retention Program
