HCOP Mission

Giving students the knowledge and skills needed to become caring, culturally sensitive, ethical and culturally competent osteopathic physicians.

The mission of the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) grant at NYCOM/NYIT is to provide educational opportunities in health care to individuals who are committed to serving in New York and other areas while building a diverse health care professional workforce.

By reaching out to educationally and/or economically disadvantaged students through the HCOP grant we hope to:

  • Link with our High School Science and Technology entry program (STEP), and the Achievers Into Medicine (AIM), our undergraduate pipeline program.
  • Provide a continuum of support spanning a period of time from high school through medical school

  • Offer students several points of entry and multiple opportunities for success

  • Develop a more diverse and academically competitive applicant pool

  • Graduate physicians with exposure to primary care needs in underserved populations

This comprehensive pipeline continuum is entitled Project Advance.  Project Advance includes:

STEP, AIM, Med Prep I Summer Program and Med Prep II Retention Program
