  • September 2011: Elected United Nations Advisory Council on Global Nursing Representative for the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. She attended the United Nations NGO forum on mental health and the scope of non-communicable diseases in New York City.
  • February 2011: Selected as a participant in the 2011 National League for Nursing's competitive Scholarly Writing Retreat in San Francisco, California.
  • 2010: Certification workshop as a member of the Nassau County Department of Health Medical Reserve Corps on Special Needs Shelter Training in Preparation for opening and managing these shelters if needed as a response to a potential disaster situation.

  • April 2011: Susan Neville, Ph.D., associate professor and chairperson of the Department of Nursing; Carol Caico, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing; Patricia Montano, nursing instructor; Maureen Cardoza, Ph.D., nursing instructor; and Zehra Ahmed, Ph.D., assistant professor of physician assistant studies and clinical coordinator, completed the two-day Pediatric Disaster Management Core Curriculum Course sponsored by the Nassau County Department of Health Medical Reserve Corps, the College of Osteopathic Medicine of NYIT, and the School of Health Professions. Caico also presented a lecture on pediatric bereavement.
