The Phoenix, New York Institute of Technology’s Manhattan campus newspaper, has been awarded first place in the American Scholastic Press Association’s (ASPA) Annual Newspaper Competition. ASPA called The Phoenix “an excellent school publication which shows a great deal of time, energy and talent by editors, reporters, writers, photographers, layout designers and advisor.”
“Winning first place in a competition against universities across the country, including many more established newspapers at larger institutions, is a remarkable achievement for NYIT’s student journalists,” said Dr. Edward Guiliano, president of NYIT. “We’re very proud of their accomplishment and the dedication of their faculty advisors.”
Two issues of The Phoenix from the Fall 2000 semester were submitted to ASPA for review, and NYIT’s Manhattan campus newspaper scored 870 out of 1000 possible points. “I would like to congratulate the entire staff for contributing to the success and growth of The Phoenix,” said Editor-in-Chief Vincent Savino.“I would also like to thank our faculty advisors, Ellin Rind and James Fauvell, for their guidance, advice and support.”
