NYIT's Patrons of the Arts Fall Cultural Arts Line-Up Announced


Old Westbury, N.Y., August 5, 2008: New York Institute of Technology's (NYIT) Patrons of the Arts is pleased to announce its fall 2008 cultural arts line-up. All performances are free and take place in the auditorium of David G. Salten Hall on NYIT's Old Westbury, N.Y., campus, located on Northern Boulevard, one mile east of Glen Cove Road. Warren Schein-Remembering Mel: A Musical Tribute to Mel Torme
This program promises to delight jazz and popular music fans of all ages, especially fans of Mel Torme, one of the most enduring singers from the Big Band era. Warren Schein emulates, not imitates, Torme-so much so that he has been nicknamed "The Velvet Mist." Sponsored by NYIT Patrons of the Arts.

Sunday, Sept. 21, 3 - 5 p.m.
Amigos de la Zarzuela
This concert, honoring Hispanic Heritage Month, features highlights from well-known zarzuelas, a popular form of Spanish musical theater. Presented by Amigos de la Zarzuela, the production will feature violinist Jesús Reina and pianist Arturo Rúa. Sponsored by Bank of America.

Sunday, Oct. 26, 3 - 5 p.m.
Great Sounds of Jazz: Bob Cantwell Quartet
Bandleader, trumpeter, and vocalist Bob Cantwell joins Sol Yaged on the clarinet to play a delightful menu of Dixieland and swing music. Co-sponsored by the Town of Oyster Bay Department of Community and Youth Services Cultural and Performing Arts and NYIT Patrons of the Arts.

Sunday, Nov. 16, 3 - 5 p.m.
Long Island String Quartet
Soprano Cynthia Reynolds and tenor Richard Slade perform light classics, including duets by Gilbert and Sullivan. Sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

Sunday, Dec. 7, 3 - 5 p.m.
Orchestra for Talented Youth
The Orchestra for Talented Youth performs a selection of international music, including holiday folk songs from China, Korea, Japan, and Ireland, followed by light refreshments. Sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings Bank.
