NYIT Gold Coast Classic Supports Student Scholarships and Educational Programs
Old Westbury, N.Y., May 9, 2007: New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) welcomed more than 600 guests to indulge in the finest foods and wines at its 10th annual Gold Coast Classic. The three-day series of events raised more than $500,000 to support NYIT’s student scholarships and academic programs. NYIT, in collaboration with Quarterly Review of Wines (QRW), presented professional excellence awards to three prominent leaders in the oenology and culinary industries.
The celebration kicked off on Wednesday, April 25 at In Good Taste at NYIT’s de Seversky Center, where attendees sampled an exquisite selection of culinary delights and wines from renowned local, national, and international restaurants and wineries. The following evening, at an intimate Winemakers’ and Chef’s Dinner, guests dined at Del Posto Ristorante in New York City, where they enjoyed a five-course dinner paired with wines from the honorees’ collections.
On the final night, NYIT and QRW honored elite members of the food and wine community with the Professional Excellence Awards. This year’s recipients were Michael Aaron, chairman, Sherry-Lehmann Wine and Spirits, Wine Industry Awardee; John Shafer, chairman, Shafer Vineyards, Oenology Awardee (Calif.); and Miguel Torres Jr., director of marketing, Torres Group, Oenology Awardee (Spain). The black-tie event was held at The Pierre in New York City and featured dinner and dancing, as well as a live and silent auction.
