NYIT Welcomes Business Entrepreneur to Board of Trustees
Old Westbury, N.Y., Jan. 9, 2007: New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) announced the election of alumnus Rory J. Cutaia (B.S. ’82) of New York City to its Board of Trustees.
Cutaia is the founder and former chairman, president and chief executive officer of The telx Group, Inc., an internationally recognized operator of telecom interconnection facilities and the pioneer of the highly successful carrier hotel “meet-me-room” business model. He sold telx to GI Partners in 2006 and continues to serve as a consultant. Cutaia is now the executive director at Corinthian Capital Group, LLC, a $500 million middle-market private equity firm that invests in growth-oriented, asset-based businesses located primarily in North America.
Cutaia’s experience also includes founding and serving as president of Innovative Resources, Inc., an early business-to-business strategic marketing enterprise, and working with an international law firm that supported his business development activities in the former Soviet Union.
“Rory is an energizing presence who brings extensive management and strategic experience, as well as international perspectives to the board,” said NYIT Board of Trustees Chairperson Linda Davila (B.S. ’78). “We look forward to working with another successful alumnus as NYIT builds a model 21st-century global university.”
Cutaia earned a Bachelor of Science in management from NYIT in 1982, and a Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law in 1985. He is the founder of the United States chapter of Innocence in Danger, a nonprofit, international association dedicated to the prevention of child abuse. He is also active in the Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization, where he mentors future business and community leaders. Cutaia received NYIT’s Brett Kaufman Memorial Alumni Scholarship Award for Entrepreneurship in 2004.
