NYIT Promotes Dr. Jacquelyn Nealon to Vice President of Enrollment Services
Old Westbury, N.Y., Oct. 23, 2006: New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) announced the promotion of Jacquelyn Nealon, Ed.D., to vice president of enrollment services. Nealon had been dean of admissions and financial aid since 1999.
Nealon, who will continue to oversee admissions and financial aid, will now also turn her attention to improving student retention and graduation rates. In addition to transforming enrollment services, she will develop new ways for students to build close, meaningful relationships with faculty and staff members to improve overall student satisfaction. This includes identifying key points of intervention in a student’s life cycle and removing obstacles to graduation.
“NYIT has come a long way in the past seven years in terms of recruiting and attracting larger incoming freshmen classes filled with talented, college-ready students from across the world,” says Nealon. “I envision a ‘customer service model’ to meet the needs of students. This comprehensive strategic plan will identify critical retention-related issues, coordinate a wide array of retention initiatives across the college, and most importantly, measure and track success.”
Nealon has more than 15 years of higher education management experience. She is the chairperson of NYIT’s Enrollment Management Committee, which is responsible for improving student service, streamlining processes, improving efficiencies and increasing retention. Before joining NYIT, she was director of recruitment and acting director of enrollment services at Seton Hall University. Prior to that, she served as dean of graduate and part-time admissions at Hofstra University.
Nealon, a resident of Wantagh, N.Y., earned a Doctor of Education in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Arts in strategic leadership and communication from Seton Hall University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Adelphi University.
