Winter Academy Program
The Winter Academy, held during the February winter break, is an intensive hands-on learning experience designed to expose highly motivated students to learning and professional opportunities. Program participants attend research seminars and informational sessions addressing current topics in health related professions. An on-site tour of an area hospital is one of the highlights of the program. In addition, presentations are designed to enhance students’ knowledge in specific areas with the goal of preparing them, as well as encourage them to pursue a health-related profession.
Day of Service
An important aspect of higher education is giving back. The STEP Day of Service is a chance for students to give back to the community by speaking with other students about the importance of obtaining a higher education.
At the end of each year, students who have completed the program are honored at the “Celebration Dinner”. A prominent guest speaker addresses the students about the challenges they may face and encourages them to continue to strive towards their full potential. Several students are given the opportunity to speak about their experiences in the program and at the conference. Each of the students receives a certificate, gift and a stipend.
