On November 6 the OMM Department hosted its 9th annual Stanley Schiowitz, DO, FAAO Case Competition. Sixteen student physicians participated by presenting their personal clinical experiences in which they integrated Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM)into the patient care plan.
Bethany Prater won first place with her presentation on the utilization of OMM to treat pain in a cancer patient. Student Doctor Prater will represent NYIT-COM in Orlando at the national case competition in March 2013 at the American Academy of Osteopathy Convocation. Angela Hart placed 2nd, Kelly Beers placed 3rd , Matthew Schear placed 4th, and Jasmine Beria placed 5th in the competition. All the contestants presented exemplary cases demonstrating their osteopathic clinical acumen to the current 2nd year class. Every year, the competing student physicians demonstrate how they have applied and integrated the tremendous knowledge and skills they have learned into their patients’ care during their clinical rotations.
