The Learning CenterThe Learning Center provides free individual and small group tutoring, and skill-based workshops to all NYIT students who request academic support. Tutorial assistance is offered in a range of subjects. The learning center also provides the forum for study groups in collaboration with instructors for select courses. The most important goals of the learning center are to provide students with the basic academic skills and the personal confidence they need to become self-directed and goal-oriented learners. For additional information, please visit the website at nyit.edu/learning_center/.
NYIT provides free online tutoring to students via Brainfuse. Online tutoring supplements the Learning Center's services and provides a convenient way of accessing expert help at any hour, from any computer with internet access. Students can access online tutoring through their NYITConnect accounts. For additional information, please contact the Learning Center at 516.686.7615.
Academic Monitoring. After each semester, students who are placed on academic probation are notified of their academic standing by mail and/or by phone. Each student is encouraged to utilize campus resources (advising, tutoring and counseling) to improve their academic standing. The Advising & Enrichment Center provides additional customized support and monitoring for students on probation.
The Math Resource Center provides free help with all math courses, including placement assistance, exam preparation, and background information. Faculty from the math department provide tutorial assistance for all levels of mathematics. We know math can be very anxiety-producing; we are set up to deal with that anxiety and help you get the most out of your math class. We see students by appointment (preferred) or drop-in. Feel free to stop by during the first few weeks of the semester to fill out a card and set up your weekly appointment. For additional information, visit the website at nyit.edu/math_center/.
The Writing Center serves students, faculty, and staff of NYIT, providing tutorial assistance for all types of writing assignments and tasks. Come to the Writing Center and speak with professors of English about your writing. We can help you brainstorm your assignment, review a draft, develop your ideas, and address grammar questions.
