The SHRM Learning System® for PHR®/SPHR® Certification Preparation

Prepare to Pass with #1 PHR/SPHR Certification Prep Tool!

The SHRM Learning System® for PHR/SPHR Certification  is designed to provide you with a solid understanding of key areas in human resource management. The course consists of six modules that correspond to the six functional areas, responsibilities, and associated knowledge as defined by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

The course covers for 2014:

  • Business Management and Strategy
  • Workforce planning and employment
  • Human resource development
  • Compensation and benefits
  • Employee and labor relations
  • Risk management

The program is offered in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as study material for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification examinations administered by HRCI. The SHRM Learning System® includes:

·         Six study guides that cover the required body of knowledge

·         More than 1000 practice questions as well as web-based resource center

·         Mobile Study Tools: Access SHRM learning system and custom-formatted tests, flashcards, and resources from your PC, ,laptop, mobile device, or e-reader device.

·         Value-added Feature! An extra review session on the business management and strategy topics covered on the SPHR exam will be offered to all students.


The course is available in a 36-hour classroom based format. Classroom-based classes meet once a week on one of NYIT's convenient Long Island or Manhattan campuses.  They are taught by experienced and skilled instructors who have successfully guided several hundred individuals through their certification exams.

Those who successfully complete the course receive a Certificate of Human Resource Management from SHRM, and 3.5 CEUs of credit.

Instructors for SHRM Learning System classes:

Monday evening classes in Manhattan  will be taught by William Ninehan. Professor Ninehan is Director of HR Program Development and is on the faculty of NYIT’s Center for Human Resource Studies, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate HR courses and the SHRM Learning System course. He holds an Ed.S. degree in Human and Organizational Learning from The George Washington University, and SPHR, GPHR, and California certifications. He has been an item writer for the GPHR certification exam.  

Tuesday evening classes in Old Westbury will be taught by Mark Fogel. Mark Fogel is one of Long Islands most distinguished HR executives. He is a former CHRO for Leviton and Marcum LLP and recipient of SHRM’s Human Capital Leader of the year award in 2007 along with HR Executive Magazine’s Honor Role designation in 2010. He regularly presents at national HR conferences, lectures at the graduate level and is featured as a thought leader in national and local media. Mr. Fogel possesses both the SPHR and GPHR designations.

Saturday classes in Old Westbury will be taught by Deirdre Duke.  Professor Duke. RN, MSN, JD, SPHR has been a human resources practitioner since 1996, entered the field following successful careers in nursing and the practice of law.

SHRM® Essentials of Human Resource Management Certificate Program - XHRC-801

If you're new to human resources or  want to strengthen your employee management skills, the SHRM Essentials of Human Resource Management Certificate Program is for you. Knowledge of the essentials can make you a better manager, protect your company from needless litigation, and help advance your career.

Offered in cooperation with the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), this cost-effective course covers real-life HR issues, including employment law, selecting qualified employees, compensation, the employee performance process and much more.

You'll benefit from the shared experiences of your instructor and peers, and learn new techniques for handling HR challenges.

Class in Manhattan on Fridays will be taught by RoseMarie LaMar. RoseMarie LaMar, MS, SPHR,. She has 20 years of HR experience and leads a HR consulting company that provides solutions to small and mid-sized companies.She has been teaching this class for quite some time and the students always find her class to be informative and worthwhile.

Class in Old Westbury on Fridays will be taught by Tom Madera, BS, PHR. He  has taught this class since 2010.  Students always enjoy his class. He is an experienced human resources professional with strategic, tactical, managerial and consulting experience in both established and start up environments. He also taught “Behavioral Interview Techniques” at both Hofstra and St John’s graduate schools. 

Class in Old Westbury on Tueday evenints will be taught by Betsy Jacob, SPHR, GPHR.  She has 12 years of experience in human resources, recruiting, and training. In her current role at Sage Solutions, she designs, develops, and delivers on-site trainings for various clients. She is the current SHRM-Long Island Conference co-chair and also serves on the Board of the Long Island chapter of ASTD (American Society of Training and Development).

SHRM Global Learning System®

HR has changed in the past decade, expanding across borders, cultures and economies. HR professionals earning an HR Certification Institute's Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR™) certification will be prepared to assume responsibilities beyond U. S. regulations - and possess the capability to develop global and cross-border HR policies.
