Curriculum

MS Programmatic Learning Goals:

General Learning Goals:
 Upon completion of the MS-HR/LR program, the successful student will be able to: 

  • Design and implement organization development and change initiatives in collaboration with relevant stakeholders;
  • Demonstrate professionalism and apply ethical standards; and
  • Utilize technology applications and research to make data-driven decisions.

Management-Specific Learning Goals:
Upon completion of the MS-HR/LR program, the successful student will be able to:

  • Develop, manage, and evaluate HR practices that produce the workforce needed by an organization to achieve its strategic and operational goals in a dynamic global economy;
  • Build productive relationships between employees and employers in both the union and non-union workplaces; devise practices that recognize the needs of a diverse workforce; and
  • Apply behavioral science theories, legal doctrines, and economic concepts; critically analyze and synthesize findings relevant to human resources management and labor relations.

Curriculum Requirements

The MS curriculum requires thirty nine (39) credit hours of specified graduate course work. Students may be required to take up to an additional nine (9) credit hours if they do not have undergraduate degrees in business or have previous experiences in the designated areas that are specified, below, in the waiveable courses.

  1. Waiveable courses: These six to nine (6-9) credit hours may be waived for those students who have either previously and satisfactorily completed undergraduate courses in the designated disicpline or had signficiant work experience in the field. Work experience must be evaluated and approved by the academic dean.
  2. Non-Waiveable courses: These twenty-seven (27) credit hours must be completed by all students, in their entirety, within the School of Management. These courses represent the core elements of the MS academic program;
  3. Electives or Concentration courses: Students must complete nine (9) credit hours of elective coursework; and
  4. Exit Requirement: All studens must complete (a) both MGMT887 (Human Resources Management Seminar) and HRMC 883 (Comprehensive Examination), or (b) HRMC 872 Thesis, practicum or other approved research for an additional 3 credits.
