Internship Certificate Program - Orientation I

Summer in France

On the Summer in Aix en Provence program, you will enroll in a six week summer program in the south of France.  As a CISabroad student, you'll spend your summer in Aix, which as a university town naturally provides an intellectual environment.  The many concerts, summer festivals, libraries, museums, bookstores, markets, and cafes have earned Aix its reputation as one of France's most engaging cities.  The city is highly accessible to all visitors and it small enough that one can walk across the main part of town in 15 minutes.

While CISabroad works closely with NYIT, you will need to apply and pay all program fees directly to CISabroad.  While we can assist in the search for your ideal program, it is important that you are aware of how the experience will fulfill credits back at NYIT.  If you have any questions about this process, please contact

A few highlights of this program include:

  • Life in Southern France - It's said that southern France is the most beautiful part of the country, and it's no wonder.  With a mild Mediterranean climate, striking scenery, historic sites, and some of the best restaurants in France, it's easy to fall in love with the area.
  • Academics focused on French, history, and more - Summer in Aix en Provence lets you start learning or improve your French and study business, history, and more.
  • Plenty of ways to get involved on campus - Summer in Aix en Provence offers numerous service-learning opportunities that will get you involved both on campus and in your local community.  What better way to truly immerse yourself in your new home.
  • An engaging, easy to navigate French city - Aix en Provence is a great place to live and study!  The city is small enough that you can walk through the downtown area in about 15 minutes but big enough to offer plenty of places to eat, shop, and explore.

The University

Summer in Aix en Provence is housed at Institute for American University's (IAU) Aix Center.  IAU is one of the oldest and largest education-abroad sites in Europe, providing students with academic programs of intellectual substance and international focus in the fertile foreign setting of the south of France.

The Aix Center is located in the beautiful old section of Aix en Provence, once a medieval village.  The Center prides itself on the diversity of its course offerings in both French and English which lets students with all levels of French-language proficiency benefit from a study abroad experience.

  • The Aix Center offers a six week program, running from mid-June to late-July.  You can take either one or two courses for six credits.
  • GPA Required: 2.5.
  • How to choose your courses: As part of the application process you will be required to complete the CISabroad Course Selection Worksheet found on the CISabroad Application Page. The following instructions will guide you through the steps.
  • Course load: 2 classes (6 US credits).
  • Course approval: Before you go abroad, it is best to get all 3-4 classes approved for your summer program. This gives you some flexibility in setting up your class schedule. Think about courses required for your major, but also courses that fulfill your elective requirements.
