On the Summer in Costa Rica program, you will enroll in a summer session at Universidad Veritas. As a CISabroad student, you’ll spend five or eight weeks in San Jose. While CISabroad works closely with NYIT, you will need to apply and pay all program fees directly to CISabroad. While we can assist in the search for your ideal programs, it is important that you are aware of how the experience will fulfill credits back at NYIT. If you have any questions about this process, please contact tnicholson@cisabroad.com

A few highlights of this program include:

• Classes with international students – Your fellow classmates  will be a great balance of students from across the US and many countries around the world.

Academics

  • Summer in Costa has two options: A Five-week Language and Culture program and an Eight-week Language and Culture program: You will take one Spanish language course and one to two electives taught in English depending on your desired program length.
  • GPA Required: 2.5. How to choose your courses: As part of the application process you will be required to complete the CISabroad Course Selection Worksheet found on the CISabroad Application Page. The following instructions will guide you through the steps.
  • Once you’re accepted into the program, we will send you instructions for taking an online placement exam so that Veritas can begin to assess your level of Spanish. Then, on the first day of classes at Veritas, you will have an oral examination to determine the ideal course level for you.
  • Course load: 2-3 classes (8–11 US credits). Language courses at Veritas are worth five credits each.
  • Course approval: It is best to get 2–3 elective classes approved before you go abroad. This way you will have plenty of classes to choose from and some flexibility in setting up your schedule.
  • Course descriptions and catalog: Click here for a list of English electives. Please note that not all courses may be available over the summer as availability is based on enrollment.
