NYIT women’s soccer opened the season with a 3-2 overall record before heading into East Coast Conference (ECC) play. The Bears rode a three-game win streak into the middle of September and pushed it to four games with a 6-0 blanking of St. Thomas Aquinas to open league action. NYIT finished the 2010 season with an 8-10 record and were 2-3 in ECC play. Six of the Bears’ wins this season have been shutouts, and all have been credited to junior goalkeeper Kathryn Miller (pictured).
Junior defender Jenna D’Alessandro was the first Bear this season to earn ECC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 16, following a 2-0 win over Concordia and an 11-0 shutout on the road at Lincoln, in which D’Alessandro scored her first goal of the year. Miller followed the next week with ECC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 21 after having her fourth straight shutout in back-to-back wins against Holy Family and St. Thomas Aquinas.
