Awards were received for NYIT’s new Web site (nyit.edu); NYIT Magazine’s spring and fall 2009 issues; the new “I Graduate” advertising campaign; video projects outlining the university’s sustainability efforts and NYCOM education (the latter produced by the Carleton Group, NYIT’s student-run ad agency); LI News Tonight television features; and student recruitment brochures.
Students Begin A New Chapter in Helping Others
NYIT has established a new chapter of Engineers Without Borders, allowing students to partner with the nonprofit organization on sustainability projects worldwide. For its first major initiative, Chapter President Christopher Jewth and Vice President Divyesh Patel—both mechanical engineering students—accompanied Professor Sarah Meyland to the remote village of Oworobong in Ghana, where they evaluated ways to bring potable water to a local health clinic. The work was supported by in-house grants awarded to NYIT’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences and the Center for Global Health.
Dean Earns Top Women’s Award
Dean Nada Anid of NYIT’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, has been named one of Long Island’s Top 50 Most Influential Women of 2010 by Long Island Business News. The annual program recognizes female professionals for their business acumen, mentoring, and community involvement.
