NYIT’s tradition of producing top athletic talent continued as recent graduate Tom Zummo (B.A. ’05) was drafted as a free agent by the Long Island Lizards, a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team. The former Bears captain helped the Lizards advance to the MLL championship game on Aug. 21, but the team lost to the top-seeded Baltimore Bayhawks by a score of 15-9.
In addition, Zummo, along with fellow graduate Chris Vitucci (B.A. ’05) and NYIT senior Joe Droge, earned STX-U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Geico First-Team All-American honors. With this achievement, Zummo became the first NYIT four-time All-American.
He was also named New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Player of the Year, while sophomore Keith Henderson was named Rookie of the Year.
Zummo played as midfielder for the Bears from 2002 to 2005. |

Tom Zummo’s dominant play on the field was a key factor in the Bears’ recent string of championship seasons, including two national titles and four New York state titles.
