NYIT tees off in first athletics golf outing

Long drives down the fairway, precision putting on the green, and shouts of “Fore!” marked a beautiful summer day as NYIT alumni, faculty and staff members, friends, and corporate sponsors hit the links at the first-ever NYIT athletics golf outing. Held on Sept. 12 at the Cedarbrook Club in Old Brookville, N.Y., the event raised more than $30,000 for the NYIT Bears Club, an annual fund that supports the college’s athletic programs and facilities.

“The response to the outing was overwhelming and just like everyone who attended, I cannot wait to do it again next year,” says NYIT Athletics Director Clyde Doughty Jr. (B.S. ’81, M.S. ’96, M.P.S. ’98).

Approximately 100 attendees were on hand to enjoy a day that started with breakfast and was followed by an 18-hole round of golf. Twenty-five foursomes had the opportunity to win prizes on selected holes, including a new Mercedes Benz (for a hole in one).

Mother Nature shined her approval on NYIT alumni and guests.

Raffle prizes included tickets to professional sporting events and signed memorabilia. During a live auction, two foursomes to the prestigious Trump National Golf Course in Westchester, N.Y., sold for $2,500 each.

“On behalf of the entire NYIT community, I would like to thank the friends and supporters who helped to ensure an outstanding experience for all NYIT student athletes,” Doughty says.
