All are one at MSA fund-raiser

Demonstrating a spirit of generosity that makes NYIT proud, the Muslim Student Association (MSA) raised more than $2,500 to support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts at a fund-raising event on Sept. 29 at the Student Activity Center, Old Westbury campus.

Special guest Imam Abdul Malik, chaplain of the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority, discussed the plight of those affected by the tragedy and urged attendees to give whatever financial support they could.

Immediately after Hurricane Katrina, NYIT established a Relief Coordinating Committee to plan related activities and projects. Also, the college is working with a number of local and regional relief organizations, as well as the New York State Education Department and the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities, to coordinate efforts. Several students from the affected regions have already been admitted to NYIT, with plans to accommodate more.
