Librarian proves to be the best reference
Jeffrey Feinsilver (M.B.A. ’79) enjoys a good book – usually something pertaining to world history. But lately there has been a change. These days, he’s much more likely to curl up with a SpongeBob Squarepants or Curious George book.
Jeffrey, coordinator of library instruction and user services at NYIT’s Wisser Library, says he waited longer than most of his peers to have children and is now soaking it up. He and his wife, Orna, have two children, Michael, 5, and Melanie, 4.
A devoted father and husband, Jeffrey still thrives on the academic atmosphere at work. He started at the library part-time in 1972, switched to full-time in 1974, and has |

spent more than 30 years providing valuable assistance to NYIT students ever since.
“I enjoy helping students find what they need,” he says. Each day it’s a new topic – anything from the media’s impact on society to the latest business strategies.
Students in NYIT’s School of Management really have an edge when they come to Jeffrey. Not only does he have a master’s degree in library science from Long Island University, he also holds a master’s degree in business administration from NYIT. Always interested in learning something new, Jeffrey thought business would be a fascinating topic to tackle and a nice change of pace from his history and social sciences background.
When he started at the college, the library was located in a small section of Harry Schure Hall, and books were located by using a card catalog. Now, the Wisser Library boasts tens of thousands of volumes and its computers are vital research tools.
“The introduction of computers and the Internet saves time and allows for more in-depth research,” he says. But technology is only as good as the people who use it, and Jeffrey’s three decades of experience make him one of the best reference tools at NYIT.
