Tell Us A Story
“There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility.”
-Mark Twain
Just a few days into my position as the new editor of NYIT Magazine, I came to realize an obvious truth: all of our alumni have interesting stories about how this institution got them to where they are today. What’s more, these tales not only involve the professional development and career-building successes that are the hallmark of NYIT’s worldwide reputation but also personal stories of friendships among fellow students, professors, coaches, and others who view NYIT as the common thread throughout the tapestry of their lives.
It is these stories of professional and personal triumphs sprinkled with drama and a touch of humor that illustrate the uniqueness of the NYIT experience. Every issue of NYIT Magazine includes feature stories and news of what your fellow graduates are up to, as well as the latest information on educational programs, services and technology at NYIT. And behind nearly every one of these developments, there is a story that demonstrates how this institution relies upon its students and alumni to serve as the heartbeat pumping life into all of its traditional, international and online campuses.
The main feature in this issue focuses on NYIT’s international programs and how they impact students and alumni around the world. You’ll read about Shu Xiao Bin (M.B.A. ’00), a former air traffic controller who was one of the first students to enroll at NYIT’s program in China. Now, with a master’s degree in business administration, he has embarked on a new career in the airline industry with more responsibility and more freedom to make decisions.
Or how about Edward Bean (B.S. ’87), a former U.S. Marine who enrolled at NYIT’s Old Westbury campus to embark on a career in law after losing a legal dispute to his landlord? Believe me, the events surrounding Ed’s NYIT experience don’t end there.
And then there is Jason McGrade (B.S. ’03), whose NYIT education gave him the opportunity to work alongside one of the top cardiac surgeons in the country. The list of fascinating stories goes on.
Mark Twain had it right: there is something interesting about everybody’s life. There are countless stories waiting to fill the pages of future NYIT Magazines. Let the memories of this institution be the starting point for yours.
Drop us a line and tell us what NYIT means to you. After all, no discussion of life’s accomplishments can be considered complete without remembering the lives touched and memories shared.
