Women’s Hoops Makes History

The women’s basketball team advanced to the semi-finals in the NYCAC playoffs by upsetting top seeds Philadelphia University and the University of New Haven before losing to the University of Bridgeport in the finals. Despite the loss, this impressive effort marks the first NYCAC championship appearance by the team.

In addition, senior Christina Papadopoulou and sophomore Anette Johansen were named to the NYCAC All-Tournament team. Next season, women’s basketball hopes

to take its success to a new level as all five starters return to the team.

The men’s basketball season came to a heartbreaking end in the first round of the NYCAC playoffs when it lost in overtime to Queens College. Senior Patrick Tunstead reached a career milestone, breaking NYIT’s all-time scoring record for men’s basketball, surpassing the previous mark of 1,792 points to finish the season with 1,891 points. Also, Tunstead and fellow senior Mike Smith earned NYCAC Second-Team All-Conference honors.
