President's Note

Change is the Only Constant

The need to respond to – and embrace – change has never been more important than today. Demands placed upon NYIT require us to adapt and retain our flexibility while maintaining a cohesive mission and professional dedication to students and society. as we celebrate 50 years of academic excellence, we look to evolve as a leading institution of higher education. But planning strategic initiatives for the next five years is not enough – we must look beyond the immediate horizon to the next 25 years.

Any learning institution that exists in the year 2030 – by its very nature – will have to be a technological entity. It must have the ability to reach across international borders and digital divides to provide value to students and society. Given that we have “technology” in our name, it becomes even more important for NYIT to position itself as a 21st century global learning leader.

But strategies for the next 25 years must be grounded in reality and mapped into initiatives that begin now or during

the next few years. We’ve made great strides to ensure that our plans for the future include all members of the NYIT community. To this end, a 2030 Steering Committee has been formed that includes faculty and administrative personnel from our eight schools across all campuses.

Additional outreach efforts will bring students and alumni into the planning process. As always, we seek to improve NYIT’s academic quality and program development; strengthen recruitment, student retention and student life; enhance NYIT’s image across national, global and digital domains; improve our financial condition; and strengthen administrative services. But we must remember that what makes us successful today will not necessarily make us successful in the future.

In the months ahead, deans and other representatives from our schools will develop plans to determine how to achieve our objectives over the next 25 years. Additional groups will examine how these ideas fit into our domestic and overseas initiatives. This includes identifying those areas of the world that will experience sharp population growth and positioning our resources to best serve them.

Further, we will examine the use of technology as it relates to all of our programs. The end result of our 2030 strategy will be the creation of a global directive that keeps us at the forefront of academic, professional and technological development in the 21st century.

With participation from the entire NYIT community, we will continue to deliver on our promises and serve as the academic and technological “gold standard” against which other learning institutions gauge their own value.
