Multiple Specialties, One Progressive College
We use lots of facts and figures to describe NYIT. But no matter how you add up our schools, academic programs and convenient locations, NYIT is one progressive college that provides access to opportunity and professional career-oriented education.
Many of you have heard about our current transition from a metro-area college into a front-of-the-mind, quality regional institution with national and global reach and national and global impact.
No single person can drive this transition. All of us at NYIT must speak with one voice that clearly describes how we're prepared to empower prospective students, current students, alumni and other members of the NYIT community.
Big Numbers
That's quite a challenge. NYIT has more than 100 academic programs, 900 employees, 11,000 students, three New York-area campuses, as well as online and international operations.
We must nurture each of these trees without losing sight of the larger forest. NYIT is, after all, a single institution that's committed to academic excellence and timely student service-regardless of physical location or area of study.
Our faculty and staff juggle numerous daily priorities. But their top NYIT priority is serving our key constituencies-current students, prospective students and alumni. We call this focus "NYIT First."
This catchphrase sounds trendy, but it won't fade from our lexicon. Everyone at NYIT-from our board of trustees to our most recent hires-is committed to making "NYIT First" a permanent part of this college's culture.
This type of intense, unifying focus is common in the business world. Consider The Walt Disney Co. Across the globe, every Disney theme park employee-affectionately known as "cast members"-works toward one common goal. Specifically, each employee delivers the "Disney experience" that millions of families share and remember for a lifetime.
"NYIT First" has similar traits-minus the character costumes and long concession lines. Whether you study with us in the U.S., online or abroad, you'll receive a progressive NYIT education that can launch your career or propel it higher.
Fulfilling this vision isn't easy. Working as one NYIT, we must engage prospective students, challenge our current students and connect with our 61,000 alumni. I'm pleased to say that we're making real, quantifiable progress on all of these fronts.
On the Move
NYIT's Class of 2003, for instance, comprised nearly 2,300 students from 60 nations and 41 states. Through their common NYIT experience-the curriculum they shared, their social engagements, their work in our classrooms and laboratories-they grew a common coat of knowledge and wisdom.
As a whole, our Class of 2003, like those before it and those to follow, will surely succeed in a range of social settings, business cultures and economic climates.
Our recent graduates are the first to work and live entirely in the Global Digital Economy-a world where individual countries and geographies are increasingly interconnected and interdependent.
The Global Digital Economy will inevitably bring people, resources, businesses, information and cultures closer together.
Similarly, "NYIT First" will bring our students, alumni, faculty and staff much closer together. At last count, there are about 73,000 people (alumni, students, staff and faculty) who share a common home-a second home-at NYIT. Stop by anytime. You know the address, and our door's always open.
