NYIT's All-American Boys
As a lacrosse team, the Bears vied for a national title. As individuals, the Bears earned accolades throughout the nation.
Junior Matt Hunter, senior Peter Muller and sophomore Brian Boyle received first-team All-American honors; freshman Tom Zummo, sophomore Jared Cullin and junior Frank D'Agostino were named to the second team.
The individual honors didn't end there. Hunter was named the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Player and Goalkeeper of the Year; Muller, Boyle, Cullin and senior Eric Zilinek all were named to the All-Conference first team; and freshman Zummo was recognized as the conference's Rookie of the Year.
The honors were well deserved. Goaltender Hunter, for instance, blocked 188 shots during the 14-game regular season, while posting a 7.11 goals against average and a .686 save percentage.
Boyle, meanwhile, scored 24 goals and led the team with 36 assists and 60 total points. Muller, regarded as a key team leader, chipped in with 19 goals, 13 assists and 32 points.
As a team, the Bears outscored opponents by a decisive margin of 184 to 103, and won more than 60 percent of its face offs.
