Big Apple Ambitions

It's almost like landing on Park Place or Boardwalk-before somebody else has a chance to snatch them up.

Indeed, NYIT has leased an additional 60,000 square feet of prime commercial space in Manhattan. The 15-year lease reinforces NYIT's commitment to Manhattan and sets the stage for new classrooms and a leading-edge digital library in the city.

"The additional space allows us to augment the academic richness of Manhattan campus life," says NYIT President and CEO Edward Guiliano. "It also allows us to better serve the diverse mix of highly qualified students that NYIT has attracted for decades."

The Manhattan campus-situated in Columbus Circle-is a critical component in NYIT's growth strategy. The new commercial space is located in an office tower around the corner from the college's flagship buildings at Broadway and West 61st Street.

The new lease spans six floors, three of which will be developed in the near term as studios, computer laboratories and faculty offices, as well as study facilities for NYIT's communication arts programs. Exhibition and private meeting space also will be developed in the new facility, which has its own entrance and elevator banks.

Longer term, the lease sets the stage for NYIT to develop a state-of-the-art digital library at Broadway and West 61st Street. Dr. Guiliano will discuss the college's vision for the digital library more fully over the next several semesters.

In the meantime, the School of Engineering and Technology and the School of Management, as well as other programs in Manhattan, will benefit from additional space, says Dr. Guiliano. Renovations under way include new elevators and a refurbished lobby area.

Columbus Circle is a prime Manhattan neighborhood, located close to world-class arts, parks and business operations, including Lincoln Center, Central Park, Trump Plaza and the rising towers of the AOL Time Warner Center.
