Editor's Note
We're Playing an Encore, Online!

You've seen our print edition. Now, it's time to check out our new Web site. NYIT Magazine Online (www.nyit.edu/magazine) is a superset of the magazine you're holding. Visit us on the Web and you'll find previews of upcoming articles, online surveys, a link to our Alumni Relations Web site and an extensive look at NYIT's events calendar.

In the months ahead, you'll also find a complete archive of our print editions-just in case you want to see your name in lights over and over again.

Our online magazine, much like the broader NYIT Web site, is designed to expand and evolve according to your needs and interests. Over the next few months, the online edition will offer extended readership surveys, monthly electronic newsletters and other community features for you and other friends of the college.

For instance, we're conducting a simple but important readership survey online in December. The survey responses will help us sharpen the magazine's focus, improve story planning and deliver timely articles. I hope you'll take a few minutes to fill out the online form.

What does NYIT know about launching successful, easy-to-navigate Web sites? Plenty. The college's primary site has won a prestigious BOLI (Best of Long Island) Award from the Long Island Advertising Club (LIAC). The honor, bestowed earlier this year, recognizes the region's best nonprofit Web site.

Moreover, several of our staff members joined NYIT after building, launching and refining online magazines that date as far back as 1994-a full year before Netscape Communications' Web browser fueled the most successful initial public offering of its time.

Still, developing an online community for this magazine was no small task. In addition to leveraging NYIT's internal assets, we have partnered with award-winning Web specialists in Manhattan, the media capital of the world.

I think you'll find that our Web site is as easy to navigate as our print edition-which continues to push forward as well.

Our goal with this print issue was to maintain the high quality of our feature stories, while raising the bar with our alumni coverage.

For instance, our Alumni Notes section has more than doubled in size. And this issue's cover story highlights how NYIT alumni recommend the college to their spouses, children, nieces, nephews and other relatives. The result is an extensive network of successful relatives who earned degrees from NYIT before making big names for themselves in the business world.

Enjoy this issue and our new Web site, and please keep the timely feedback coming. Your ideas will help us to shape our future editions.
