Two Names to Know
A familiar face and a new dean are settling into new positions at NYIT. Joseph Ford has been named chief student affairs officer, and Jacqueline E. Kress, Ed.D., joins the college as dean of NYIT's School of Education and Professional Services.
Ford formerly served as associate dean for student affairs at NYIT's New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM). Dr. Kress joins NYIT from Fordham University, where she most recently served as associate dean/director of graduate studies since 1993.
Ford is now responsible for leading student services and programs on all campuses, including student activities and organizations; student development; career services; housing and residential life; dining services; student counseling and wellness programs; intercollegiate and intramural sports programs; health services; first-year experience programs; and the student disciplinary process.
"At the end of the day, NYIT is measured by the success of its students," says Ford. "My job is to make sure NYIT is delivering the best student experience possible."
Ford has delivered on those goals before. He has over 18 years of experience in academic and student affairs administration, including associate dean of the School of Business at Long Island University-Brooklyn campus, chief student affairs officer positions at Babson College and Hawthorne College, and assistant dean at the College of the Holy Cross. He received his J.D. from Ohio Northern University and a B.S. from Radford University.
Dr. Kress joins NYIT as dean of the School of Education and Professional Services, where more than 1,100 students are pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees related to education, counseling, administration, information technology, culinary arts and hospitality management.
"As I researched the position, it became clear that NYIT is a college on the move," says Dr. Kress. "The college and its students don't fear change, which is refreshing."
In addition to her academic achievements, Dr. Kress is a widely quoted author. Two of her books- "The Reading Teacher's Book of Lists" and "The ESL Teacher's Book of Lists"-are considered standard resources for reading and English language teachers.
Dr. Kress previously held key academic leadership positions in the New Jersey Department of Higher Education, and is widely published on the subjects of accreditation, performance and outcomes assessment, special-needs students, and program design.
Ford and Dr. Kress both are located on the Old Westbury campus.
